NAZINE
My name is Alex Bagwandeen {stage name NAZINE}, I was born on the 25th of May 1991. I currently live in the Church Road community of Bog Walk, St Catherine; where I have spent all my days. I attended Linstead Junior High School [1996-2002] and then Bog Walk High School [2002-2008] where drama was my favorite area of study. The drama experience had a major impact on the building of my character. I met many influential persons and visited many significant places, as result of my association with drama class. Drama in my experience was a combination of music, dancing and acting. It was not an extracurricular activity, it was a compulsory subject. When I was not being theatrical, I was hitting high notes for the School Choir on a popular televised choir competition called “All Together”.
My musical journey begun since my conception as a result of my father being a musician, however, it wasn’t until age 13 that I discovered the fire and the love to pursue a career in music. My greatest source of motivation is the fact that my father is considered to be an under achiever in the music industry. In 2005, at age 14, I joined ”The X-BROTHERS”, a Rap/R&B group. The group consisted of 4 members, 3 rappers and me [the singer]. There, my melodies complimented the street rhymes of the rappers. We released a Mix Tape in the winter of 2006, which gave us a strong following in our surrounding areas (Linstead & Bog Walk). We also entered in various talent competitions, and received good reviews from critics. My skills as an entertainer were enhanced as a result of the solid support and mentoring I received from the other group members who were much older than I was.
Unfortunately, as a consequence of, irreconcilable personal differences between myself and a group member, I left “The X-BROTHERS” in 2007. Music never stopped for NAZINE. Even though leaving “The X-BROTHERS” was emotionally and mentally stressful; the confidence, love, desire, and passion to fulfill the dream were still there. My greatest challenge was getting use to being a solo artiste. After a couple months, I gained familiarity with things as solo artiste. I then proceeded to do a few studio recordings, I also performed on few stage shows. In the winter of 2008 I auditioned for the popular televised competition “MAGNUM KINGS AND QUEENS OF DANCEHALL”. I passed the audition phase and eventually finished third (3rd) in the competition. The experience was great. For 10 consecutive weeks I was given the opportunity to showcase my talent on national television (TELEVISION JAMAICA). I also interacted with many established persons in the music industry who gave me tremendous insight about the world of music. I am now doing a lot of work pertaining to music. MUSIC NEVER STOPS.
